Driving Lesson - Right Reverse Corner
Where
Starting Point
- 3 to 4 car lengths before junction
- Normal parking position, parallel to left kerb
- Left indicator – when stopping (if required)
Moving Off
- 360° Observations, signal (if required), move off when safe
- Look into junction
- Check if it is safe
- Assess sharpness of corner
- Signal right AFTER junction (if required)
- Position
- 1⁄2 Metre away and parallel to right kerb
- 2 car lengths after junction
- Secure the car (handbrake), cancel any signal
Manoeuvre
- P – Prepare– in reverse gear
- ASAP as signal to other road users
- O – Observe all round – look over left shoulder
- M – Move – slowly – old man's walking speed
- Point of turn
- When rear wheel level with first curved kerbstone
- Observe – up/ down road – front of car will swing out
- Steer to right
- Look over right shoulder and/ or driver's window
- Maintain same 'wheel to kerb' distance
- Observations throughout
- As kerbstones straighten up, steer left, look over left shoulder
Finishing Position
- Reverse straight for 5/ 6 car lengths
- (This allows enough distance to move off into left lane)
- 1⁄2 Metre away and parallel to kerb (same as start point)
- Wheels and steering wheel straight
- Secure the car (handbrake), neutral
Other Road Users (including pedestrians)
- Stop – allow to pass
- Other vehicles have priority
Slow Speed – Good Observation
